Soft stillness and the night become the touches of sweet harmony. Such harmony is in immortal souls.
These words by Shakespeare capture the tenderness and power of music over the human spirit. Vaughan Williams' winsome setting of Shakespeare's poem in A Serenade to Music will be the centerpiece of our performance on the 50th anniversary of the composer's death. The program will also feature selections from Monteverdi's Scherzi Musicali, excerpts from Lauridsen's Rose Motets and Beethoven's Choral Fantasy, op. 80. Symphony musicians will join CitySingers of Hartford in this inspiring program in celebration of music.
