Streaming forth from all nations, music is a ray of hope for peace.
This language of the
heart inspires unity as it brings people together. Through music
we connect culturally,
sharing creativity and skill to evoke beauty in sound that reaches
into the soul.
The Celts eagerly embraced a blending of cultural traditions in
their music and
expression of faith. They migrated across Europe from the Eastern
deserts, gathering
customs and assimilating them into their own style and practice.
Then, returning to the
European continent, to Russia and even North America on missions
and pilgrimages,
they left their Celtic "imprint" on people in many lands.
Indeed, it is a fusion of cultural influences that makes the
Celtic idiom so unique
and provides inspiration for this program entitled Kindling
the Fire. Through chant,
celebrated choral works and hymns based on folksongs, CitySingers
of Hartford, will
journey through music of the British Isles, France, Eastern Europe
and Russia – music
illuminated by the fire of its Celtic origins. Together with The
Wild Notes, a multicultural
instrumental ensemble, CitySingers will seek to kindle the flame
of kinship that is
nurtured through the gift of music.
